Before you do, read our Exness review and find out more about the broker's pros, cons, how to trade, product offerings and more.

Exness Broker Review 2023: Pros, Cons and Overall Rating

Based in Limassol (Cyprus) and managed by Nymstar, the broker Exness also has operations in the U.K. (Business to Business only), Seychelles, South Africa, Curacao & Sint Maarten, and the British Virgin Islands.

It is regulated in all the territories above. They were established in 2008, and as of 2021, their active traders had almost reached USD 1,000 billion monthly in trading volume. That is pretty impressive.

Exness as a Forex Broker

Exness is one of the largest brokerages in the world, primarily in CFD forex trading, that offers a multitude of financial instruments, and its web platform is made available in several languages, including English, French, Spanish, Simplified Chinese, Bengali, Korean, Thai, Vietnamese, Japanese, Arabic, and Urdu, among others.

Forex Trading Platforms

Considered a global market leader among forex brokers, Exness offers both the industry standard (MetaTrader 5 and MT5) for trading platforms and have their own proprietary web-based terminal and a mobile trading app. MetaTrader is known as one the best trading platforms and is the benchmark trading platform offered by many forex brokers. In forex trading, the trading platform offered by a company should be high on clients’ list for deciding on a brokerage.

Trading Forex with Exness

Exness is essentially a CFD forex broker offering multi-asset trading services. In general, the services that Exness provides (along with its customer support) are favorable conditions for traders who need instant execution with low spreads and no commissions (depending). They are also one of the only forex brokers that provide infinite leverage (which could be good and bad), allowing traders to earn on deposits under USD 1,000.

Let’s take a look at this broker in detail and determine whether or not you may want to use them in order to start trading, access the forex market, switching online brokers, or even diversify with them due to the forex accounts they offer.

Is Exness Safe? Broker Regulations

In all our broker reviews, we go over the aspect of how safe a broker is, including their regulation, security protocols, and client fund protection.

Investors are always looking at how safe and reliable a broker is. This is because traders and investors want to know their money is secured. Now one way brokers make sure that they are safe and reliable is to get regulated by financial regulatory commissions. These international governing bodies ensure that an investor’s financial security is protected.

Now, brokers can operate all over the globe and under different entities as Exness does. In all cases, they will be regulated by a governing body in each region they are in.

Exness has a total of six governing regulatory bodies that watch over them throughout the globe. However, it should be noted that in 2019, Exness shifted away from the retail trading sector in the EU/EEA and focused on B2B (Business-to-Business). This means that retail traders in the U.K. and E.U. would need to find another broker unless they were looking for a white-label solution.

Governing Regulatory Bodies in Exness homepage footer

Governing Regulatory Bodies in Exness homepage footer

This means that now the two commissions that regulate Exness (CySEC and the FCA) only govern the B2B aspect of it. However, the four other regulators still take precedence and allow retail traders from the rest of the world to trade safely.

Trustpilot and just over 4,400 reviews give them a 4.6-star rating out of a possible 5. This score is not too bad. You will have to consider that most reviews based on TrustPilot typically deal with aspects of customer support, not the broker’s reliability. Customer support is something we will touch on in the following sections.

Exness Trustpilot score

Also, consider that they have received multiple awards, which include customer service awards;

  • Best Global Forex Customer Service 2019
  • Best Global Forex Trading Experience 2019
  • Most Trusted Global Forex Broker 2019 at the Global Forex Awards.

Overall, Exness is a trusted broker that has been around since 2008, and they have tens of thousands of satisfied clients.

  • Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC) license number 178/12
  • Financial Services Authority of Seychelles (FSA) license number SD025

What Can I Trade with Exness?

Exness is not the best forex broker in terms of having an extensive range of assets available to trade. Compared to other brokers, we would classify them as average in terms of available assets you can choose to trade. They have typical assets, including Forex, Stocks, and Indices. Then they offer precious metals and energies, which would be classified as commodities. Lastly, clients are also able to trade crypto. Let’s look at the assets they offer in more detail.

Exness does not have the most extensive range of financal instruments

Exness does not have the most extensive range of financial instruments

Forex Trading

Exness offers CFD forex trading in over 100 forex pairs, including major, minor, and exotic pairs. One thing to note is that Exness offers some of the lowest spreads on most of their accounts. We will touch on this later, but you can expect a spread as low as 0.3 pips on standard accounts and a zero spread on their professional accounts.

Generally, 0.0 – 1.0 pips is considered a low spread when trading forex, however, when it comes to forex trading platforms with the lowest spreads, trading commissions and fees should also be factored in. As a CFD and forex broker, Exness is known for offering tight spreads and low commission fees, trading conditions ideal for investors just about to start trading forex as well as one the most client-facing brokers in the foreign exchange market.

Stock Trading

In terms of stocks, Exness has the most popular stocks available to trade, such as AMZN, TSLA, and the rest. You will also be able to find Verizon, Visa, and PepsiCo. Thus, for stocks, we would not say that they are lacking, but you can expect to find about 100 of the most popular, whereas other brokers like CMC Markets offer over 8,000.

Commodity Trading

Exness refers to commodities as precious metals and energies, and you will only find a handful available to trade here. Gold, Silver, and Crude are the main assets, and ones such as Wheat, Coffee, and others are not available. If you are looking to trade such commodities and one like natural gas, then this broker may not be the option for you.

Crypto Trading

Crypto is an asset that most new traders want to be able to invest in, and Exness offers all the typical coins and then some. From Bitcoin and Ethereum to Litecoin and Ripple, Exness offers the most popular cryptocurrencies to trade.

Index Trading

Indices are probably their shortest assets list which contains 10. However, the most popular are at your disposal, such as the FTSE 100, S&P 500, and Dow Jones Industrial Average. Looking at their assets list, this broker lends themselves more to stocks and forex than any other instrument.

How to Trade with Exness?

Clients will want to open an account first and then choose which platform they would like to use for trading. There is a rich ecosystem of terminals to choose from, some of which are web-based and others that need to be downloaded and installed on the user’s device(s).

The trading terminals clients can use are as follows:

  • Exness Trader App (iOS and Android)
  • Exness Terminal (Web browser)
  • MetaTrader 5 (Windows, macOS, and Linux)
  • MetaTrader 4 & MT4 MultiTerminal (Windows, macOS, and Linux)

The first terminal is the Exness Trader App, an MT5 terminal suited for mobile devices (Both Apple and Android), with over 200 instruments (CDFs on forex, gold, oil, indices, etc.), and offers instant deposits and withdrawals. It was designed specifically for beginners.

The other way clients can trade on mobile is with MetaTrader Mobile. Users can install these MT4 or MT5 apps on their mobile devices for Android only. They provide similar functionality to the desktop version. The MetaTrader platform is geared toward more experienced users as it contains more advanced features.

They then have their proprietary Exness Web Terminal, a custom-built, browser-based MT5 terminal that does not require downloading or installing. It runs on all operating systems (Windows, macOS, Linux, and even mobile devices). It uses TradingView charting technology and offers more than 50 drawing tools and 100 indicators.

The next web terminal they offer is a MetaTrader WebTerminal, a browser-based terminal that does not require downloading or installing in order to be used. It runs on all operating systems (Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, Android.). It is an MT4-based terminal offering 40 built-in, customizable indicators and an economic calendar.

They also have the gold standard trading apps (MetaTrader 4 and 5). The MT5 app is available on Windows, macOS, and Linux. It offers advanced features such as trading robots and technical indicators via the MetaEditor tool. It features over 200 trading instruments, 6 asset classes, 5 trading account types, 8 pending order types, 21 timeframes and 3 chart types, a hedging system, 38 inbuilt indicators and 22 analytical tools, an inbuilt forex calendar, etc.

It features over 200 trading instruments, 6 asset classes, 5 trading account types, 6 pending order types, 9 timeframes, 3 chart types, 50 pre-installed indicators, etc.

There is also their MT4 MultiTerminal which allows users to monitor up to 128 trading accounts simultaneously and up to 10 demo accounts. Users can trade on multiple accounts and trade instruments with the same suffixes on different account types. How Can I Open Exness Account? A Simple Tutorial

Using Exness requires opening an account, which is very straightforward. First, you will need to head to their website and select the button in the top right corner of the screen that says “open account.”.

Then follow the prompts, provide your email and your region, and choose a password. You can then sign into your account. You’ll be given a choice to proceed with a Demo account first or with a Live account straight away.

When opening a Live account, you will need to provide more information (including proof of identity and residence) and submit the account to be verified by the Exness team. This usually takes one day. After verification, you can add funds to start trading.

  • Go to the Exness website or straight to the registration page
  • Enter your country/region, your email address, and your password
  • Choose between one of two options: "Open a Demo Account" or "Open a Live Account"
  • You won't need to provide any further information to open a Demo account.
  • To open a Live Account, you need to enter additional information, such as your personal details (full name, address, phone). You will also need to upload proof of identity and of residence. This
  • Once the Live account is verified, you will need to deposit funds before they can start trading.

Free Exness Demo Account for Trading Practice

As mentioned above, clients are offered free demo accounts to test different strategies and learn more about the Exness platform before committing any real money.

Users are presented with a virtual amount of USD 10,000, which they can trade as they please. Once they are comfortable using the platform and/or have developed their strategy, they can switch to a live account.

Furthermore, as a brokerage offering CFD trading, traders should weigh the risk before deciding on Exness as their broker of choice. Since to trade CFDs means a trader will speculate on price movements of the underlying asset of contracts, it is high risk and all the more reason for clients to practice trading with the broker before spending any real money.

Copy Trading for Beginners

A step up from practice trading, beginners can also choose Exness’ copy trading for relatively lower risk trading. Also known as social trading, it allows investors to access the financial markets by mirroring the positions of professional traders or signal providers. The best forex brokers that provide copy trading usually vet their signal providers by assessing their following size, monthly trading performance, trading strategy and average risk-adjusted returns, among others.

Exness Charts and Analysis

We already discussed some of the various features that are available through the different Exness platforms. However, there are some other aspects in terms of analytical tools that you can find on their platforms.

Based on TradingView charting technology, the Exness browser-based terminals and apps offer a multitude of drawing tools and indicators. Furthermore, Exness clients have access to several other tools that can assist them in their analysis and in their decision-making process:

The Economic calendar, which is available on the website or app, helps users keep track of high-impact news, market-moving economic events, and data releases.

Trading signals by Trading Central help clients develop their strategies and plan their trades. The signals incorporate a variety of analytical approaches, providing a valuable tool for traders under all market conditions and timeframes. This tool is available through the Exness trader app or your personal area as a client.

Market news by FXStreet allows users to stay up to date with a real-time feed of market news. This is also available directly from the app or through the client’s personal area once you have opened an account.

Then there is the T.C. Technical Analysis Indicator, a multilingual and customizable plugin that superimposes Trading Central’s technical analysis strategies, forecast, commentary, and key areas onto live trading charts. It can be used on MetaTrader 4 desktop platform. Remember that although MT4 and MT5 are similar, some plugins, such as this one, will not be cross-platform compatible, so this is something to keep in mind.

Some other tools that you can access straight from their website that some beginner traders and professionals alike could use are their Investment Calculator, Currency Converter, and Tick History.

The investment calculator allows you to automatically calculate the parameters of your trades by simply entire details like the account type, instrument, lot size, leverage, and currency.

Then the currency converter simply lets you do a quick currency conversion which is pretty useful, seeing as you can see the conversion for up to six other currencies, including crypto.

The tick history is an archive of data that is drawn from real-time pricing. You are able to download past buy and sell prices of an asset in Zip format over a specific time period.

Exness does not offer much trading education, but it offers a media room that focuses on major financial events. Then they also have a blog that is regularly updated with financial news and economic events that you can correlate to their economic calendar.

Lastly, they have a Trading Central Web T.V. section where they say the latest news directly from the New York Stock Exchange floor is available. The videos are equipped with market commentary and actionable trading ideas from Trading Central, giving you deep market insights. Trading Central is an industry-leading financial investment research provider.

The video streams are updated around 12:00 GMT every trading day, before or at the time of the NYSE opening. This is, so traders to get daily updates as they need them and in time to make decisions before the markets open.

Exness Account Types

There are two standard accounts to choose from when looking to open a trading account with Exness: Standard and Standard Cent accounts. The spreads are pretty low on both these accounts, starting at 0.3 for some forex pairs. Then both accounts require no commission when trading any asset and the leverage is unlimited which is unheard of.

The Exness professional accounts are geared toward experienced traders, and there are three types: Raw Spread, Zero, and Pro. These accounts would be beneficial in suiting traders that are into scalping, as well as Algo traders.

The minimum deposit on all three of these professional accounts is USD 500. The Raw Spread and Zero accounts offer no spread with commissions starting at USD 0,2 per lot. Then the Pro account has no commission, and the spreads start at 0.1.

The leverage on these accounts is once again unlimited, which seems like a fantastic idea, but for the most part, only the most experienced traders will be able to take advantage of this.

Do I Have Negative Balance Protection with This Broker?

If you don’t already know, negative balance protection is a feature that brokers will offer their clients to limit their losses if they potentially place a bad trade that can leave their account with a negative balance.

For example, let’s say a client has an account of USD 100 in an account and they place a position. Then the trade moves against them quickly into the negatives. Whatever the negative balance is that is accrued from the trade will be covered by Exness, and essentially, the trader will never lose more than what they have deposited.

Negative balance protection is a feature that Exness offers to all its clients on all of its accounts, no matter if they are standard or pro accounts. Exness will cover all losses that a trader will make and effectively set their balance back to zero.

For brokers that don’t offer negative balance protection, the trader would, in fact, have to replace the negative balance in order to “reset” their account. This protection is especially beneficial to those trading forex through CFDs.

  • Negative balance protection on all accounts: Standard and Pro

Exness Deposits and Withdrawals

In terms of deposits and withdrawals, Exness does have more options than your typical broker. There are flexible payment options in local currencies that include regular methods such as bank cards and internet banking.

Then they also offer the most popular electronic payment methods, such as e-wallets and even crypto wallets. Some of these include USD Coin, Tether, Webmoney, Neteller, and more. We provide you with a full table of their payment options below.

The minimum deposit for each trading account (whether Standard or Pro) will depend on your payment system. For the most part, all methods require a minimum deposit of USD 10 except a wire transfer, which will require a minimum amount of USD 10,000. Processing in terms of deposits will also depend on which payment method you use. In cases where a bank card is used, the transaction is instantaneous, while other methods like Perfect Money can take up to 5 days.

If a client wishes to withdraw from their account, then they will also need to use one of the payment methods to do so. The minimum withdrawal amount will also depend on the method, and processing can take anything from 8 hours to 7 days, depending on the method you choose.

However, occasionally Exness will offer assorted bonus credits to its clients, which can be used in trading operations. These may be limited to only certain jurisdictions or countries, specific account types, etc.

In addition to those conditions, some other T&Cs apply to bonus credits. Credit Compensation is based on the amount of Credit/Bonus lost due to losing trades. FAQs

How secure is Exness?

Several authorities around the world regulate Exness. Your protections are limited if you open an account with an Exness entity regulated offshore.

How does Exness make money?

Exness makes money from the bid or ask spread. This means that when you place a trade, you will essentially pay to enter the trade based on the difference between these two prices. That is why it is important to consider the spreads of different assets you wish to trade.

How good is Exness for beginners?

Exness, in our opinion, is a good broker for beginners because it provides a cent account, good educational materials, and dependable customer service.

Is there any region restriction for various account types?

Standard Cent accounts are subject to regional restrictions. All other accounts are not restricted by region (Standard, Standard Plus, Pro, Raw Spread, and Zero). Then different regions may have different minimum deposit requirements.

What is the difference between a real and a demo Exness account?

The main distinction is that real accounts trade with real funds, while demo accounts trade with virtual funds that have no real value. Aside from that, the market conditions for demo accounts are the same as they are for real accounts, making them ideal for testing your strategies. Furthermore, they are available for all account types except Standard Cent.
